First, Cilas loved Tilda. He gifted her this wedding band on an Autumn day in Sweden in 1901. And because he loved her so, he chose the best of the best - 23ct gold.

Then, Ulla loved Gunnar. Ulla had the ring passed down to her, and because she was a woman of taste she had it refashioned in the mid-century style of the time, with the addition of a bezel set tourmaline cut en cabochon. But something tragic befell the couple, and their love was cut short after only a decade together.

The ring eventually passed out of the family’s hands, imbued with the love it has symbolised for more than a century.

It’s amazing the stories that antique jewels can tell. This antique Edwardian era (1901-1915) stacking ring tells its own story. The inside of the band has been engraved 'Cilas & Tilda, 3/10 1901' and 'Ulla and Gunnar, 1952-62, 1/6'.

This beautiful ring is accented with a deep green tourmaline, cabochon cut and held in a closed-back bezel setting. The rich and buttery 23ct yellow gold band has a D-shaped profile, and is quite substantial giving it a nice weighty feel on hand. The ring was likely reworked to add the gem to the original, plain band. A wonderfully sentimental piece for lovers of antique jewels with a story.

Fully stamped for 23ct gold, Falun, Sweden, 1901. Maker's mark 'H&L' (Hagström & Lundqvist).

Size L (US 6). Resizable within reason.

Weight (approximate): 8.6g

Measurements (approximate): Band is 7mm wide. Tourmaline measures 5mm in diameter. Rise is 4.75mm from finger.

Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The gem and bezel are likely later additions to the original band. The gold has marks and general wear, which add to the lovely patina. The tourmaline has some light wear visible under magnification and natural inclusions. The band is slightly out-of-round. The stamps are crisp and clear. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.

NOTE: We are unsure as to whether the gem has foil backing, and for this reason we recommend that the ring is not exposed to liquids or moisture.

Cost includes full insurance coverage for loss or damage in transit.
