From museum to you, this Georgian era (1714-1836) mourning ring was once the star of the show, exhibited as part of a private collection at the Hallwylska museum. ('From the Jewellery Collector's Box' exhibition, 2014).
An unusual and incredibly rare piece, the face of the ring is set with a white marble cameo sculpted in high relief, bordered with twenty small amethysts of a deep purple hue. Text around the ring rail reads “Eliz Beck. OB. [...] Sep 1774. AET. 66', a tribute to the life of the woman it was commissioned to commemorate. The band is crafted in 18ct yellow gold, with traces of black enamel that originally would have extended around its full length.
No stamps are present, but gold tests as 18ct.
Size O (US 7.5). Can be resized within reason.
Weight (approximate): 2.9g
Measurements (approximate): Ring plaque measures 11.5mm x 13mm. Band is just shy of 3mm wide.
Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The marble cameo is in good condition with no damage. A small number of the amethysts have chips. The enamel has heavy losses with only traces remaining. The band may have been resized previously. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
