An exquisite antique Victorian era (1837-1901) diamond arrow brooch. The arrow features a large rose cut diamond to the centre of the shaft in a closed-back setting. The arrow's head and feathers are also decorated with smaller diamonds, all set in 14ct yellow gold. One of the most curious and captivating details of this piece is the secret compartment hidden beneath the shaft - long and thin, it opens on a hinge and may have been used to carry a toothpick or a sewing needle.
Assay marks are present but illegible. Tests for a minimum of 14ct gold.
Brooch measures approximately: 71mm (2.8") x 12mm (0.5") at the widest point. Largest diamond measures approximately 5mm x 4mm (approximately 0.25ct).
