A stately antique Victorian era (1837-1901) Saint Esprit converter pendant, consisting of a floral spray and peace dove. The 'Saint Esprit' is a Christian motif that was popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It features a dove with an olive branch to represent the Holy Spirit, its wings outstretched as it descends from heaven to earth.
This Saint Esprit pendant is fashioned in silver and set with high quality paste, very bright and lively in its closed-back setting. It is articulated and can be worn together as one, or as two separate pieces (either the floral spray or the dove alone). The dove has a hook attachment and the spray has bale and pin attachments, allowing it to be worn as a pendant, a brooch, or hooked on a chain. The piece's origins are most likely French, as the Saint Esprit motif was particularly popular in this country.
No stamps are present but the silver and paste have both been tested.
