A stunning Victorian era (1837-1901) enamel ring with pansy design. In Victorian times, the pansy symbolised loving thought and memories (it's name comes from the French 'penser', 'to think') and jewellery such as this was given as a gesture of friendship and platonic love.
The ring has a central plaque adorned with a white pansy on a blue enamel background, framed by a beaded gold border. It is crafted in buttery, high carat yellow gold, with embellishments to the shoulders and a reeded band.
Stamped for 18ct gold, Sweden, 1864, with maker's mark 'AC'.
Size Q (US 8.5). The gold of the band is quite thin and may not hold up for resizing (a jeweller's opinion is recommended).
Weight (approximate): 1.3g
Measurements (approximate): Plaque measures 9mm x 7.6mm. Band tapers to 1.5mm at the rear.
Condition: Good, with wear commensurate with age. The enamelwork is in good condition, with small nibbles and cracks visible under magnification. The band is out of shape. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
