A stunning Victorian era (1837-1901) enamel ring with pansy design. In Victorian times, the pansy symbolised loving thought and memories (it's name comes from the French 'penser', 'to think') and jewellery such as this was given as a gesture of friendship and platonic love.
The ring has a central plaque adorned with a silver applique pansy with diamond accents to the leaves and petals, against a black enamel background. It is crafted in 22 carat yellow gold, with split shoulders and engraved embellishments.
Fully stamped for 22ct gold, Birmingham. Dated 'Z' (unable to determine the exact year due to ambiguity in the letter design). Marker's mark 'S&B'.
Size Q (US 8.5). Can be resized within reason.
Weight (approximate): 3.3g
Measurements (approximate): Plaque measures 11mm x 9mm.
Condition: Fair, with wear commensurate with age. The enamel has some small nicks but no major losses. The pansy is missing a diamond from the petal at the 1 o'clock position. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
