An extraordinary vintage scarab ring dating to the 1970s or thereabouts. This fabulously detailed scarab is carved in rich blue lapis lazuli, and accented with six single cut white diamonds. The gems are set in a raised gallery, to a 14ct yellow gold band with split shoulders.
In ancient Egypt, the scarab was held sacred as a symbol of resurrection, and carved versions were often worn as talismans or amulets. Scarab jewellery became popular again in the late 19th century (and remains so today), after archaeological digs uncovered troves of lost Egyptian treasure, triggering wonder, excitement and Egyptian-inspired fashions in the Western world.
Stamped for 14ct gold with indistinct maker's mark ('WK' or 'HK').
Size L (US 6). Cannot be resized without removing lapis.

Measurements: Scarab measures 17mm x 12.5mm. Ring head is 13mm high. Band is 4mm wide.
Condition: Ring is in good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age. There is a chip to the underside of the scarab's body at the 6 o'clock position (only visible when viewed in profile). Condition is otherwise very good, and stones are all secure in their settings. Please see pictures for details and don't hesitate to ask questions.
